Structural Calculations Enquiry Form (Residential Home Improvements) V1.2

Step 1 of 6

16%

Please complete the following form and submit your details. The form is designed to gather the key information typically required to provide a quotation for structural calculations for residential renovation or improvement works. The quotation will be based on the assumption that the property is structurally sound.

This form takes approximately 3–5 minutes to complete. If you are unsure about any answers, you may provide your best estimate and an engineer will review the details.

The questions within the form will guide you through the information typically required. Where relevant, additional services may be recommended that could assist if further information or assessment is required before structural calculations can be prepared.

Before you start

  • Have your property address and a brief description of the proposed works available.
  • If possible, prepare any drawings, plans, sketches, or photos relating to the project.
  • If you are providing a link to files (for example Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer), please ensure the sharing permissions allow access.

What happens next

  • An engineer will review your responses and supporting information.
  • If any additional details are required, we will contact you.
  • You will then receive confirmation of the appropriate next step, such as a quotation for structural calculations or guidance on any additional information that may be required.

If you are unsure about any aspect of the proposed works, we recommend you complete the form with your builder, who should be able to assist in providing the most accurate information.

Which of the following best describes your current stage?(Required)

If you would like an engineer to assess the property before proceeding, we can carry out an initial review to define the structural requirements for your project.

  • A visual inspection of the existing structure to understand its condition
  • A review of any available drawings, sketches, or proposed works
  • Identification of the structural elements likely to require design
  • Clear guidance on the scope of structural calculations required

This allows us to prepare an accurate quotation for the structural calculations based on the specific requirements of your project.

The fee for this service will depend on the nature and extent of the proposed works.

Request an engineer assessment

Takes approximately 1–2 minutes to request.

What type of property is your project for?(Required)

Residential properties include houses, bungalows, apartments and duplexes used as private dwellings. A house or bungalow includes detached, semi-detached and terraced properties. Apartments or duplexes are individual units within a building containing more than one dwelling.

Based on your selection, a tailored quotation will be prepared.

Bespoke quotations are available for:

  • New residential houses or bungalows
  • Residential apartments or duplex properties
  • Commercial properties

To receive a quotation:

  • Provide a brief description of your proposed works
  • Upload any available drawings, plans, sketches, photo's or videos

What happens next:

  • An engineer will review your submission
  • If additional information is required, we will contact you
  • You will receive a tailored quotation based on your project requirements

                      Roof structural member definitions

The diagram below illustrates each of the structural members described. Please refer to it when completing the fields in this section. Roof structure diagram

                      • Ridgeboard — A non-structural timber at the apex of the roof. Rafters are nailed to either side of it as a fixing point only; it does not carry load.
                      • Ridge Beam — A structural beam at the apex that carries the load of the rafters. Required where there are no ceiling joists to act as ties (e.g. vaulted or cathedral ceilings) and must be properly supported at each end.
                      • Rafters — The inclined timber members spanning from the wall plate up to the ridge, carrying the roof covering (tiles, slates, etc.). Rafter centres are measured horizontally from the centre of one rafter to the centre of the next, typically 400mm or 600mm.
                      • Ceiling Joists — Horizontal timbers spanning between the two opposing wall plates at ceiling level. They tie the feet of the rafters together to prevent the walls spreading outward, and carry the ceiling finish below. Ceiling joist centres are measured horizontally from centre to centre, typically 400mm or 600mm.
                      • Purlins — Horizontal beams running perpendicular to the rafters along the length of the roof, providing mid-span support to the rafters. They sit beneath the rafters and are supported by internal walls, struts, or gable walls, effectively reducing the rafter span.

If you are unsure of any measurements or member types, your engineer will advise during assessment.
